If you have a searched for a book on the catalogue and have noted down the call number, you then need to go to and find it on the shelf. The call number is like the book's address. On the sides of each stack or shelf, there are signs displaying the number ranges in that section. The numbers range from 0-999.

We use the Dewey system which classifies books by subject, so usually books around a certain subject are grouped together. This means it is quite browser friendly, for instance if the particular book you are looking for isn't on the shelf, there may be another useful substitute in the same section or a more useful book could be found amongst neighbouring books.
