I am having issues with EndNote Online, CWYW in Word is not displaying

Answer

Download ATU's EndNote Online here - please create an account first if you have not already done so. If you have created an account directly from https://www.myendnoteweb.com/ please ensure you login here to activate your ATU credentials so you can access the ATU Referencing styles and roaming.

Ensure you have NO Microsoft applications open (especially Word) when you download the Cite While You Write (CWYW) tool.

Please note Firefox is the preferred browser for downloading - there are some reported issues when downloading the CWYW tool in Google chrome.

Troubleshooting:

If you had a Microsoft product open during your initial download or you downloaded the software in Chrome we recommend that you uninstall EndNote Online.

To uninstall EndNote online:

  1. Go to Applications > EndNote online and double-click on the ENWeb_installer file.
  2. Select 'Un-Install' and click Next.
  3. Drag the EndNote online application folder to Trash when the uninstall completes.

Then to download and install the Cite While You WriteTM plug-in to use with Word:

  1. Make sure you are logged onto EndNote in Firefox (please use this link to ensure roaming is activated – click ‘sign in’ in the top right hand corner, once signed in click on ‘Endnote’ on the top middle of the toolbar), then click the Downloads link at the top of the page.
  2. Click the Download Macintosh link to download the Cite While You Write installation disk image.
  3. Make sure no other applications are running, specifically MS applications .
  4. Double-click the Cite While You Write.dmg file.
  5. Double-click the Install Cite While You Write text.
  6. Click Open if asked "Are you sure you want to open it?".
  7. Select the Standard Installation.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Click Done.

If you are still not seeing the EndNote tab, follow these steps:

  1. Close Word and EndNote.
  2. Open your hard drive and go to the following folder:
Applications: Cite While You Write:Cite While You Write
Copy the file "EndNote CWYW Word 16.bundle" by highlighting the file and going to "Edit > Copy."
NOTE: If you do not see the "EndNote CWYW Word 2016.bundle" file in the "Applications: EndNote: Cite While You Write" folder (or if this file is not the most up to date version), you can follow these steps:
    1. Download a copy of the latest EndNote online tools.
    2. Run this file and follow the steps to install the tools in Word.
    3. Skip step 3.
  3. Go to the folder "[Hard Drive Name] : Library : Application Support : Microsoft : Office365 : User Content : Startup : Word" and paste the file, "Edit > Paste."
Note: If you have trouble finding the above location you need to click on Finder (in the Dock the icon of a face) to the right of Finder click on the Go menu then click on Computer then click on the Macintosh Hard Drive. You should then be able to follow the path above.
Note: In non-English versions of Word, the folder named "Startup" may be called "Start" or be in the localized language of Word.
  4. Start Word, go to "Word > Preferences" and click on "File Locations."
  5. If the Startup folder is set to any location, highlight "Startup" and click on "Reset."
  6. Click "OK" and Quit Word.
  7. Start EndNote and then start Word.
