What is a literature review and how do I go about doing one?

Answer

The purpose of a literature review is to:

  • demonstrate that you are familiar with the existing research on your topic
  • provide a context for your own investigation by showing how it fits in with the existing research

It's like a "re" view or "look again" at what has already been written about your research topic.

As you begin your literature review, you can save time by defining your focus as narrowly as possible. The more tightly focused your topic is, the more efficient and effective your research can be.
